Not Quiet Dead Mixes DayZ Tension With Deep Base Building

Not Quiet Dead launches on Steam Early Access this 1 September. The open-world title challenges players with complex temperature mechanics, intricate base building, and ruthless zombie encounters.

Not Quite Dead

The newly announced survival title developed by Voidecho Studio drops players into a post-apocalyptic wasteland where every decision carries fatal consequences. Starting with empty pockets, you must immediately scavenge for basic resources whilst monitoring vital signs in real-time.

Rather than relying on traditional levelling, progression is entirely tied to physical preparation and tactical awareness. Rushing out into the wilderness without a solid plan guarantees a swift defeat.

Securing a safe haven is the primary objective during the opening hours. Gathering stones and raw wood fibres allows you to establish a secure perimeter before nightfall approaches.

What makes the survival mechanics so punishing?

Extreme weather conditions pose a constant threat alongside the infected. Navigating snowy environments rapidly drops your core body temperature, causing passive health damage if you lack adequate winter clothing.

Radiation zones require specialised gear before entry. Players must source intact gas masks and fresh filters to loot these highly contaminated areas safely without dying from exposure.

Every item gathered has a direct impact on your chances of staying alive. Even basic scrap metal is essential for fortifying shelters or repairing broken-down vehicles found on the roads.

How does base building and crafting work?

Crafting allows survivors to construct custom safehouses entirely from scratch. You can build hunting cabins, defensive perimeters, and secure storage crates using the materials harvested from the environment.

Players can also take over existing abandoned structures. Multi-level underground bunkers provide highly defensible spaces to place furnaces and weapons workbenches safely out of sight.

An in-game economy system adds further depth to the looting phase. Salvaged goods hold monetary value, enabling you to trade surplus equipment with NPC merchants for rare components.

What enemies will players encounter?

Standard infected apply deep bleeding effects with a single strike. This forces players to quickly craft medical bandages from torn clothing to avoid bleeding out in the middle of a forest.

Specialised variants, such as explosive zombies, demand extreme caution. Engaging them in tight spaces is lethal, requiring precise marksmanship and careful stamina management to keep a safe distance.

Travelling across the map brings mechanical risks as well. Vehicles like armoured cars and helicopters need fuel and repairs, whilst their engine noise draws massive unwanted attention from hordes.

How does co-op multiplayer change the experience?

Teaming up with friends significantly reduces the heavy burden of early resource management. Groups can split essential duties, assigning one person to fortify the base whilst others hunt for food.

Public servers accommodate both solo adventurers and large groups. This creates dynamic encounters where running into another squad could lead to a peaceful trade or a tense firefight.

Coordinated tactics are essential for surviving high-risk zones. Having a dedicated sniper on overwatch whilst the rest of the team loots a military checkpoint greatly improves your survival rate.
